"Defining the role of BAFF and APRIL in multiple myeloma and its bone marrow milieu: therapeutic implications"

Two new tumor growth factors called BAFF and APRIL, have been identified in multiple myeloma patient cells. They have been shown to play a role in the survival of myeloma cells. I will study the role of both these factors within the bone marrow microenvironment. I will then study strategies to interfere with these factors interacting with MM cells. These studies will not only help understand the role of these factors in the biology of myeloma, but more importantly will help design novel treatment approaches to improve patient outcome.
