"Examining IL-8 and the pathogenesis of multiple myeloma"
Improved therapies for multiple myeloma (MM) will stem from understanding of the cancer cells, their bone environment, and interaction between these components. A correlation between bone marrow production of the chemokin IL-8 and the diagnosis of MM has been identified. IL-8 possesses multiple functions that may regulate cancer cells directly or alter the bone environment in which the cancer cells reside. The goals of this work are to determine the impact that IL-8 may have on myeloma cells or their environment, and evaluate IL-8 as a relevant target for current and future therapies.
