"Molecular mechanism of mTOR inhibition as a therapeutic modality for multiple myeloma"

Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable blood cell malignancy. P13K/mTor is an enzyme pathway that is activated in MM. mTOR inhibition has shown a decrease in MM growth rate and is being studied in patients with relapsed or refractory MM. We found that the inhibition of mTOR by RAD001, can cause both a pro and anti-growth effects on the MM cells, depending on the dose used. We aim to explore the mechanism of each effect, which may correlate with the response/resistance of MM patients to the treatment with mTOR inhibitors.
