"The AKT-mTOR Pathway in Multiple Myeloma"
Fellows' Award Recipient, 2002
A molecule called mTOR is hyperactive in multiple myeloma tumor cells. Its activity is critical for continued proliferation of these tumor cells. Our preliminary experiments suggest that using a newly developed mTOR inhibitor called CCI-779, can result in prevention of myeloma cell proliferation. This proposal will test that hypothesis and, hopefully, provide a scientific rationale for future use of CCI-779 in myeloma patients.
