"Glycogen Synthase Kinase 3 as a Potential Target for Therapy in Multiple Myeloma"
Senior Research Grant Recipient, 2002

Multiple myeloma is a malignant blood disease that is incurable in most patients. Despite progress in understanding the biology of multiple myeloma, patients lack effective long-term treatment for the disease. Our data show that glycogen synthase kinase 3 (Gsk3) play an important role in regulation of myeloma cell proliferation. In order to uncover new modes of treatment we will test two novel compounds in myeloma cells that have been shown to inhibit cell growth by blocking the enzyme activity of Gsk3. These studies should provide preclinical data and reveal targets for therapy in myeloma.
