The emergence of drug resistance continues to limit the success of myeloma treatment. We have previously shown that adhesion of myeloma cells to fibronectin via B1 integrin is sufficient to cause resistance to drugs commonly used to treat multiple myeloma. We have referred to this phenomenon as cell adhesion mediated drug resistance or CAM-DR. In this proposal we will determine whether blocking B1 integrin mediated cell adhesion with HYD1 will increase tumor response to drugs currently used to treat multiple myeloma in a mouse model system of multiple myeloma.
