"Mouse myeloma models with targeted chromosome 14 deletions"
Multiple Myeloma is an incurable B cell blood cancer. Chromosome 13 deletion is frequently detected in 30-55% myeloma patients. Importantly, patients with the deletion have a poor prognosis. Six genes located in a specific region (13q14) of human chromosome 13 have been identified as candidate tumor suppressor genes. However studies in myeloma patients have failed in identifying such a suppressor. In this study, we will create mouse chromosome deletions resembling deletions observed in myeloma patients. These robust mouse myeloma models will be used for identifying the potential myeloma tumor suppressor(s) and serve as models for myeloma treatment.
