"Targeting Multiple Myeloma with R-Etodolac"
Senior Research Grant Recipient, 2001

The future of multiple myeloma will depend upon the development of drugs that target malignant cells for destruction, but do not harm normal cells. R-Etodolac is a component of the antiinflammatory drug Lodine. In test tube studies,
R-Etodolac killed myeloma cells without harming normal bone marrow cells. The aims of this study are to 1) define the chemical targets of R-Etodolac in myeloma; and 2) determine a dose regimen that is effective in animal models of myeloma. These results will potentially lead to appropriate trials to test the effectiveness of R-Etodolac in multiple myeloma patients.
