Epilogue
Elaine P. Snyderman was a very special friend to the MMRF. A relationship that started in 1998 when Elaine asked her doctor, "who is the best organization to contribute money to or research in multiple myeloma?" at Dr. Ann Traynor's suggestion, she contacted the MMRF and was impressed. Even then, Elaine knew that the organization was going to do great things. After our first meeting with Elaine we knew she was destined for great things too. An accomplished writer, Elaine authored two books: "Pascin and the Demons of Chance", a novel on artist Jules Pascin and "Alien of a Familiar Planet: Remembering", a memoir of her experience as a newly diagnosed patient and her journey through a stem cell transplant. Her memoir is insightful, funny, heartfelt and gripping, and captures Elaine as she truly was - an elegant, intelligent, graceful, kind and generous lady. For Elaine, the MMRF's web site was our crowning achievement. She often steered fellow patients there feeling that the access to trials, views from experts and updates on new drugs was essential for every patient and the timely information helped make her journey through evaluating her own course of treatments and understanding her disease possible.Elaine Snyderman's contributions to the MMRF were many. She worked on media promotions for the first Ann Landers' MMRF Race for Research, bringing her enthusiasm, dedication and contacts to make the event a success. She also went to Washington DC to participate in MMRF Blood Cancer Advocacy Day, and along with her family and friends, she attended and supported MMRF events bringing hope and contributions toward funding research. Elaine was blessed with a loving family, and especially here husband Perry who remains active with the MMRF as a supporter and friend. We are fortunate that Elaine's generosity will live through her legacy as she committed to donating proceeds from the sale of her books towards funding multiple myeloma research.
