Kathy Giusti is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC). Following her diagnosis with multiple myeloma, Ms. Giusti founded the MMRF in 1998 to fund innovative myeloma research and drug discovery. Having raised more than $70 million to date, the MMRF is the world’s number one funder of myeloma research. As an extension of the MMRF's mission, Ms. Giusti founded the MMRC in 2004 to enable leading research institutions to work with industry to speed the discovery and development of effective new treatments. Comprised of 13 leading research institutions, the MMRC is widely recognized for breaking down barriers in tissue banking, data management, genomics, and clinical trials and is held as an optimal research model to accelerate the development of new therapies.

Ms. Giusti received for MBA in general management from Harvard Business School and graduated from the University of Vermont magna cum laude with a BS in biological Sciences. She began her career in 1980 with Merck & Co., and later joined the Gillette Company. In 1993, she joined G.D. Searle & Co., where she last served as Executive Director of Searle's worldwide arthritis franchise.

Ms. Giusti received the 1998 Healthcare Businesswomen's Association's Woman of the Year Award, the 2001 Harvard Business School Entrepreneurial Award, the 2002 McCarty Cancer Foundation Humanitarian Award, the 2002 Joseph Michaela Award from the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the 2005 Harvard Business School Award for Courage and Valor, and the 2006 Partners in Progress Award from the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Ms. Giusti has served on the Institute of Medicine's National Cancer Policy Board and the Cancer Leadership Council. Today, she continues to serve on the National Cancer Advisory Board, an appointment she received in 2003 from President Bush, and is a member of the Board of Directors for IMS Health. Most recently, Ms. Giusti's efforts to advance cancer research and drug development have been featured in The Wall Street Journal and NBC Nightly News.

She lives in New Canaan, Conn., with her husband, Paul, and her children, Nicole, who is 12, and David, who is 9.

A 20-year nonprofit executive, Scott has been instrumental in raising more than $100 million in his career. He joined the MMRF as Executive Director in January 2000 where he also serves as the Chief Administration Officer directing the MMRF's daily operations, strategic business planning, fundraising, research spending, programming and public awareness efforts. In his eight-years as executive director, the MMRF has seen its annual revenue grow 246%, while maintaining administrative and fundraising expenses at a combined 5%. Scott has been instrumental in the MMRF being recognized as an A+ charity by American Institute of Philanthropy - the only cancer-based organization which such distinction - and under his leadership the MMRF has received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator four consecutive years.

Scott's career experience spans the spectrum of the non-profit industry from National Fundraising for The March of Dimes, in White Plains, NY to international marketing and communication at the global headquarters of the Knights of Columbus in New Haven, CT to grassroots development efforts with the Center for Environmental Activities and on the grant-making side as a Program Officer with the Educational Foundation of America, a $350-million national private foundation.

Scott graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, cum laude, with a BA in Journalism. In 2006, Scott received his Executive Leadership Certification from Harvard Business School and was recognized as one of the Top 10 influencers in multiple myeloma research and awareness by the MMRF/MMRC the same year.

Anne Quinn Young, MPH joined the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation as Program Director in August 2002.

Anne oversees the organization's $8 million research program, as well as spearheads the foundation's educational programming for healthcare professionals and patients, which includes serving as principal investigator on a major grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Anne entered the healthcare/pharmaceutical industry as a public relations practitioner, where she largely focused on the development and implementation of public awareness and education campaigns for pharmaceutical companies and on the promotion of scientific journal publications and presentations. Most notably, Anne supervised the creation, launch and maintenance of a national depression awareness campaign that consisted of 11 corporate and nonprofit partners, including advertising/marketing agencies, national media outlets, opinion leading physicians, and professional athletes. The campaign, which resulted in hundreds of millions of media impressions, included the following components: local media events across the US, public service announcements, the distribution of patient education materials through multiple channels, and the first-ever 5K walk for depression in New York City. Anne also developed and implemented similar education and awareness campaigns for posttraumatic stress disorder, panic disorder, and arthritis.

Anne began her public relations career at Burson-Marsteller, following a postgraduate internship at the Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, where she researched, analyzed, and investigated potentially anticompetitive mergers and acquisitions in diverse industries, including healthcare. At Burson, she drafted press materials and conducted extensive follow-up for a variety of media initiatives for women's health products, and planned and implemented the first National Summit on Hepatitis to unite influential constituency groups.

Prior to joining the MMRF, Anne was a consultant at Datamonitor, a global market research and business intelligence company. She was responsible for managing diverse projects, including product and market analyses, strategic planning, and opportunity assessments, across therapeutic areas, but focusing primarily on oncology, as well as identifying and pitching new business opportunities.

Anne received a BA in Government, cum laude, from Dartmouth College and a Master of Public Health Prevention from the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University. She currently serves on the Cancer Leadership Council (CLC), as well as the Patient Advocacy Research Team (PART) Council as the myeloma representative to the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Specialized Programs of Research Excellence (SPORE) program.

She resides in Greenwich with her husband Brandon and her daughter Keira.

Anne M. Walker joined The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation as National Events Director in November 2006. Anne brings to the MMRF an extensive entrepreneurial background, as well as a proven track record in event management and fundraising.

Anne's responsibilities will include directing the MMRF national event strategies plan with a focus on corporate events, as well as overseeing the regional organizational expansion planned for 2007 and beyond.

Prior to joining the MMRF, Anne was co-founder and CEO of Nearwater Event Group, an event consulting firm specializing in corporate and nonprofit events, conferences, and special events. Previously, she served as managing director of Greenfield Healthy Foods Company, where she oversaw the public relations, development, and marketing programs. Anne began her career as an institutional equity sales trader at Morgan Stanley and Company after earning her B.A. in economics from Bucknell University.

In addition, Anne has been very active in fundraising and event organization as a volunteer with a wide range of groups, including the Center for Hope, Darien Public Schools, Bucknell University and Norwalk Hospital.

Anne resides in Darien, CT with her husband George and children, Lindsay, Lilly and Stephen.

Brian Porter

Director, Individual and Foundation Giving

Brian Porter joined the MMRF in January 2005 as Director, Individual and Foundation Giving. A twelve- year nonprofit professional, Brian is responsible for increasing revenue from individual and private and community foundation donors.

Brian began his fundraising career as District Director in the New York office of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. His responsibilities included all aspects of development, including individual, foundation, corporate donors, the annual appeal and special events. He was promoted to MDA's National Office as Director, Corporate Development. In that capacity, Brian was responsible for helping create and steward partnerships representing over $40 million, with companies including McDonalds, Seven-Up, Sara Lee, Reynolds Metals, Anheuser Busch and many more. Brian was also heavily involved in MDA's annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.

Brian left MDA to enhance his marketing and brand management skills on the corporate side at Anheuser Busch. At AB, Brian served in many capacities including sports marketing, merchandising, new business development and brand management on all major beverage products. Brian continued to utilize his fundraising experience at Anheuser Busch, managing collaborations with the UNCF, MDA, the U.S. Olympic Team, National Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the USO.

Brian returned to fundraising in 1999 at Save the Children U.S. headquarters in Westport, Connecticut, as Associate Vice President, Corporate Marketing and Licensing. With a focus on corporate partnerships, cause marketing, foundations, individual gifts and special events, Brian led a threefold revenue increase, from $4 million to $12 million in just four years. Brian conceived and implemented Save the Children's first-ever Corporate Council, a subcommittee of the Board of Trustees, dedicated to achieving significant growth in corporate gifts. New partnerships resulting from the efforts of the council included those with Procter & Gamble, General Motors, Marriott, United Airlines, BD and several more prestigious corporations.

Brian graduated from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, with a B.A. degree in Philosophy.

Brian resides in Weston, Connecticut with his daughter Taylor and sons Brian and Andrew.

Shelley (Christie) Terry joined the Foundation as the Development Coordinator in January of 2003. At the MMRF, Shelley is responsible for overseeing the 5K Race for Research program, all grassroots events and the Foundation's annual appeals.

Shelley's career in non-profit development began in North Haven, CT where she started as a Program Coordinator for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). She was then promoted to District Director covering the Lower Hudson Valley of New York and Fairfield County in Connecticut where she managed a staff of 8 people. In her three years with MDA, Shelley raised over $2.2 million dollars, exceeding her budget every year.

Shelley received a BA in psychology graduating magna cum laude from Stonehill College in Massachusetts and received a Master of Social Work from Boston University. She resides in Stamford, CT with her husband, Matt.

Joanne Puglia

Financial Manager
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

Joanne Puglia began working as the Financial Manager for the Foundation in October of 2000. Since joining the foundation, Joanne continues to develop and maintain the accounting process, which includes the Account Receivables, Banking, Account Payables and all office financial reporting. In addition to working with the Executive Director on weekly foundation financial analysis, Joanne integrates with the Events and Programming Directors to monitor monthly budgeting for those departments. Joanne also coordinates the annual audit process for the foundation, working with an independent accounting firm.

Joanne's accounting background has been developed through years of experience in positions held such as Financial Analyst for United Technologies, Pratt & Whitney and Manager of The Bursar Department and Student Finance at Sacred Heart University.

Joanne earned her BS degree in Education and Accounting at Central Connecticut State University. Joanne currently lives in Trumbull, CT with her husband Paul and their three children Megan, Erin and Frank.

Jennifer W. Katritos

Ms. Katritos joined the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) in November 2005 as Director of Finance. She has more than fifteen years experience in both public and private accounting. Prior to joining the MMRC and MMRF, Ms. Katritos was an associate with PricewaterhouseCoopers and previously held positions at Unapix Entertainment, Inc., M.R. Weiser & CO, and Deloitte & Touche. Ms. Katritos received her B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Oneonta.

Louise M. Perkins, PhD
Director of Research
Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

Louise Perkins, PhD, is the Director of Research at the MMRF where she is responsible for the strategic development and execution the MMRF’s research agenda. Dr. Perkins brings more than 16 years of pharmaceutical research experience at two major companies to the MMRF. Prior to joining MMRF, she was Director of Cancer Research at Bayer Pharmaceuticals in West Haven, Conn., where she contributed to advancing novel targeted therapies—including Nexavar and other innovative signal transduction inhibitors—toward clinical study. While at Bayer, she also served as Director of Research Licensing and was responsible for oncology licensing activities in support of cancer research programs. Prior to joining Bayer, Dr. Perkins led a cancer research group at the Schering–Plough Research Institute in Kenilworth, N.J. In this role, she participated in several early-stage research programs including novel target-finding research using human genomics data. Dr. Perkins graduated from the University of Michigan with a PhD. and MS in Biological Chemistry and conducted post–doctoral studies at Princeton University in the Department of Molecular Biology. She earned her BS in Zoology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
