Introduction

Family Photo of The Readings

There are defining moments in everyone's lives, maybe a few, perhaps only one, but nevertheless, they are there. Chris and Eric Reading's lives are no exception. And a campaign initiated by these fraternal twin brothers, The Readings, would not exist without one such experience.

In 1990, their mother, Bonnie, was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer. For several years, Chris and Eric watched with awe and admiration the courageous battle their mother waged to maintain her quality of life and high spirits in the face of an almost certain fate. At the time Bonnie began her fight, the average Myeloma patient was living only three years after diagnosis. Despite the odds, through early 1995 Bonnie was in remission, and leading a very productive and fulfilling life. Unfortunately, Multiple Myeloma has no cure, and the good times would not last long, as her disease returned with increased vigor and stepped up its assault on her immune system. In 1995, Bonnie lost her five and a half year struggle; she was only 51 years of age.

Chris & Eric Reading

Anyone who has ever lost a loved one knows it causes one to reflect on one's past, present, and future. The last few weeks Chris and Eric spent with their mother reinforced this important lesson, and led to their vow to achieve no less in their lifetimes...which brought them here, on the brink of a charitable event combining their talent and love of music and their overwhelming desire to combat a crippling health issue that devastates almost 20,000 new families each year, and over 50,000 people in the U.S. alone.

Mission Statement

Set to begin in the Spring of '08, the Tour 4 Cure is a national acoustic concert tour of Borders Book Stores, hosted by recording act, The Readings, with celebrity MC's and surprise musical guests. In partnership with Borders, The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, and other national corporate and foundation partners, the Tour will raise awareness and much needed funding for research in the fight against a currently incurable form of cancer, Multiple Myeloma. This is a personal mission for The Readings, as they lost their mother to this disease. With Borders' positive international brand, and the support of The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), The Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy (MIRT), and I'm Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation, this endeavor will bring Multiple Myeloma into the forefront of the national consciousness, and help to find a cure.

The Readings and their partners envision a unique platform for spreading the word about Multiple Myeloma. Hosted by BORDERS bookstores in their Seattle's Best Cafes, The Tour, an acoustic music showcase, will be an entertaining session of upbeat well-crafted music and songs framed within the context of the Tour 4 Cure mission.

The Readings' professionalism, and their passion for music and this cause, will provide an energetic yet intimate atmosphere to convey the message of the campaign. Surprise celebrity and musical guest performers will round out each night's events.

Tour plans consist of an 8 week, 8 city tour of major markets and The Readings' home markets (see schedule below). The performers and celebrities will sign CD's and T-shirts, take photos, giveaway literature, take donations, and engage with BORDERS patrons before, during, and after an approximately 1 hour performance.

More about The Readings

Visit The Readings website. Album also available on iTunes.

The Readings (pronounced 'Reddings') are fraternal twin brothers who, though originally from San Diego, CA, have carved their own path to success in Nashville. They are fast-rising professional musicians and songwriters who have produced two independent albums, have songs played on radio stations in the U.S. and around the world, and have an artist page and video on CMT.com (Country Music Television). Their songs have been cut by other artists in Nashville and continue to be sought after by industry professionals. Their gift for putting words to music has never been more apparent than in the message of One of Those Days, a song inspired by their mother's courageous battle:

Cause I wanna have, one of those days.
Where I wanna do what I wanna do, and not be so afraid.
Have the time of my life; pretend that it won't have to end.
I wanna have one of those days, today
That I may not have again.

The Readings set out to give back through their music, and continue to honor their mother's legacy by passionately pursuing their dreams of making a difference. They, along with their Tour partners, would like to invite you to be part of the inaugural campaign and fundraising efforts of The Readings': Tour 4 Cure!
