First-line Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma with Combination of Low Dose Thalidomide, Zometa, and Dexamethasone |

| Purpose: |
To determine effectiveness of combination therapies with thalidomide for patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma |

| Eligibility: |
No amyloidosis or secondary malignancy
Option for patients ineligible for a bone marrow transplant
Option for patients ineligible for myelosuppressive chemotherapy

| Treatment: |
Patients receive oral thalidomide at 100 mg per day, IV Zometa® administered every 4 weeks, and oral dexamethasone at 40 mg per day on 4 days out of the week. This continues for 3 out of 4 weeks per month for 6 months. Dose of dexamethasone may be reduced and Biaxin® may be added depending upon patient response |
