Title:  
First-line Treatment of Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma with Combination of Low Dose Thalidomide, Zometa, and Dexamethasone
Phase:  
II
Purpose:  
To determine effectiveness of combination therapies with thalidomide for patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma
Eligibility:  
  • No amyloidosis or secondary malignancy
  • Option for patients ineligible for a bone marrow transplant
  • Option for patients ineligible for myelosuppressive chemotherapy
Treatment:  
Patients receive oral thalidomide at 100 mg per day, IV Zometa® administered every 4 weeks, and oral dexamethasone at 40 mg per day on 4 days out of the week. This continues for 3 out of 4 weeks per month for 6 months. Dose of dexamethasone may be reduced and Biaxin® may be added depending upon patient response
