We so appreciate the importance of having individuals who make a difference for us by volunteering their time on specific projects. Opportunities exist throughout the organization but we have the greatest need for volunteers to work on events.
We work with graduate schools to provide internship projects specifically geared to the required course programs. You can apply for one of the internships we have already defined or you also can to apply to us directly to propose the type of internship you would like to have us consider. The internship projects typically include:
- Defining the project, expected outcomes and next steps
- Researching
- Benchmarking
- Analyzing and recommending
- Preparing a presentation
- Presenting recommendations to the Executive Committee and appropriate members of staff
Event Manager - Races
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) has a great career opportunity for an Event Manager to take charge of their highly successful nation-wide Race for Research programs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, engaging, ambitious and hard-working individual. Reporting to the VP of Development, he/she will be excited about joining the small team of fun, talented colleagues all of whom are completely dedicated to the mission of the MMRF - to relentlessly pursue innovative means that accelerate the development of next-generation multiple myeloma treatments to extend the lives of patients and lead to a cure.
The Event Manager - Races will be responsible for all aspects of achieving/exceeding the revenue goals for the Race for Research programs, ensuring expenses for each race come in within budget.
Major activities include:
- Working with Regional Managers to recruit and cultivate corporate and individual race sponsors and race captains who in turn recruit the race teams who raise the funds
- Working with the communications team on the marketing, PR and web page design for each race
- Managing the event companies who handle logistics for each race
- Managing expenses within budget
- Participating with events and development colleagues supporting the overall development goals to identify and cultivate potential new donors
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years experience in Event Management and Development roles. Experience in handling races is highly desirable. The role requires someone who is willing to travel, has a sense of urgency, is business oriented capable of producing plans for the Race Programs and has a desire to work in an entrepreneurial organization. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and collaborative selling skills. Experience working in a fast-paced, results-driven entrepreneurial organization is preferred.
Marketing Manager
The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) is seeking to recruit a Marketing Manager to support all corporate communications and marketing initiatives for the organization. The position reports to the Vice President of Communications with a dotted line to the Vice President of Development. The successful candidate will be a strong project manager with excellent writing skills, and with an attention to detail and accuracy.
On a day-to-day basis, he/she will contribute to the growing demand for marketing and PR services. Some of the high priority tasks are as follows:
- Helping the senior team to develop strategy for the Executive Committee to position and market the Foundation and the CEO in line with the mission
- Finding innovative and cost-effective ways to support fundraising events (grassroots, races, marathons, corporate dinners, galas…); development activities (cultivation events…); scientific and clinical meetings; and advances in drug development to realize the mission
- Supporting all messaging and marketing around these fundraising initiatives; email blasts, handling all social networking, web page development, newsletters, annual reports, corporate brochures and more
- Interfacing with the MMRF’s marketing agency, outsourced writer(s), PR consultant, and web-site developer
The successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
- University/college degree (Communications degree preferred)
- At least 5 Years experience in a Marketing/Communications or PR function (preferably in a health care company)
- Strong Project Management experience
- Broad knowledge of social networking, internet marketing, web page development as well as more traditional marketing communications approaches
- Established skills/experience in writing communications and PR pieces
- Experience in working with agencies including web-site designers, internet providers, PR consultants
HR Manager Pro Bono
A great job for someone who wants to work part-time to bring their skills and expertise in HR to develop policy, systems and procedures in a growing foundation dedicated to cancer research. The HR Manager will play a leading role as well in helping to crate better communications across functions. He/she will be asked to introduce processes and training programs in several key areas.
